Founded in 1829, ‘Royal’ as it is fondly known, is the oldest golf club outside the British Isles. You can almost smell the British influence once you enter the aristocratic building. Gleefully stuck in the royal times, the golf club has been home to some enthralling races and stylish soirees. But don’t get too overwhelmed yet. The race is where the adrenaline is and where the action really sets in. If you can, do catch a derby at this iconic turf and watch the handsome horses run in all their glory. You can also book a putting session at the golf field to get a taste of this blue blooded game.

The Calcutta Turf Club was founded on 20 February 1847. The purpose was to regulate all aspects of horse racing in Calcutta. Members of the club were elected by ballot. A five-person committee ran the club, and five stewards ran the races. In 1856 the Calcutta Derby was replaced by the Viceroy's Cup.Spectators of this race were admitted by invitation only. In 1860 Lord Ulrich Browne came into the Calcutta racing scene, which he would dominate. He was responsible for redrafting the racing rules and revising the weight-for-age scale. In 1879 the first Monsoon Meeting was held on a specially constructed course inside the main flat course. In 1880 public interest in racing grew when races started to be held in the afternoons, and new stands were built
One of the amazing horse race courses in India with hundreds of acres of land with greenery. This is also an active race course with atleast one race every week. Food at the club is excellent in both non-veg and veg. However only club members with their guests allowed into this club. There are only 180 members in this club and getting membership in this club is almost impossible and one may have to try years together to get membership as per my understanding. Try your luck. All the best.
A beautiful Raj era club overlooking the race turf and the adjoining landscape including Victoria Memorial. The food and ambience were super !
One of my favourite clubs .... Food is yummilicious with options and variety in Both veg and non veg food Very nice ambience and view particularly if are there for lunch during monsoon u can clearly see Victoria memorial.. During race days the place is crowded and has a different ambience all together
