A gigantic statue of a barely clothed woman is hardly something you’d expect would be the landmark of a major city. And yet that is what Imperia is. She towers over Constance harbour, holding in one hand Pope Martin V and in the other, Emperor Sigismund. She represents contempt of and condemnation for the Catholic clergy of her times. The statue itself, 9 metres high, stands on a pedestal that rotates once every four minutes. It was erected in 1993.
