About Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, Kota Kinabalu

This is a huge wildlife park that is made up of two parts: the zoological and the botanical side. Among the many residents of the zoo are the Borneo Pygmy elephants, Sumatran rhinoceros, Orang Utan, Proboscis monkey, Malayan Tiger as well as a few species of deer. The botanical component offers visitors the chance to go jungle trekking along the botanical trail. The readily paved trail is approximately 1.4 kilometers long and the botanical component is about 200 acres in size. The aviary is a more lively section where you will hear myriads of sounds of the mynahs, greeting visitors who come to the park. At the aviary, there are many species of birds like the hornbill, pigeons, parrots, eagles, egrets and many more.

There is also a children's section of the zoo that has pygmy elephants, ponies and goats. Children can also enjoy elephant rides here.

Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, Kota Kinabalu Reviews

  • Here you can see local animals and few exotic animals. There is also botanical garden / area for plants manage by forestry department. Please bring umbrella because on sunny day it will be hot. The animal show at 11am.

  • It's more of a traditional zoo than a wildlife refuge. The people are really nice, the animal show at 11 is cute, worth to see. Some of the animals seems to be miserable in small cages though, just like in all zoos at any other country. The botanical garden is really nice, but not entirely finished yet.

  • Good place to view animals and to educate children about protecting the environment and wildlife. There's also a botanical garden in the area. The park is well laid out. Can't say I noticed if there were facilities for the disabled but it's easy to navigate.

  • A small little park however the orangutans were great and well looked after. Good price to enter but take a drink in with you as there is nothing after the lobby of the park

  • The place tries hard but just doesn't cut it. Orangutans no different from most zoos around the world. Elephants good. The rest is average. Biggest issue is getting back....it's in the middle of nowhere and taxis are not around. Good luck getting an uber - there's no WiFi.
