Miraikan, Koto Reviews

  • A great science/tech museum covering innovation and exploration. Convert your unique data to music, use the binary “machine” and accelerate particles: lots of hands-on activities for all ages. Plus, robots! And a replica of part of the ISS. Some English throughout makes it accessible. Separate listening devices for the planetarium/3-d shows (worth the extra charge). Easy to spend half a day here.

  • This was my favourite science museum to have ever visited (Trinity Dublin Science Museum is a decent runner up). Interactive activities throughout make it so enjoyable for kids and adults. We visited the Birthday planetarium experience which was pretty cool but not an essential recommendation. I was impressed with how well complex concepts were explained and how they actively encourage people to think and contribute to the ideas. We spent about 3 hours in the museum, and then pottered around the vicinity, which is also beautiful. Highly recommend!

  • Highly educational and recommended for children 8+ years old. I feel younger children wouldn't have studied enough to appreciate everything. Nevertheless there are limited activities for younger children. Content wise, the museum is oddly sparse for how big the building is. There were only two floors with exhibits when we visited (May 2018). The ground floor was occupied by a Detective Conan event which you had to pay extra to access. In terms of robotics, this museum was a complete disappointment. Given Japan's rich history of robots, it felt entirely odd that there wasn't anything dedicated to chronicling that history. There was a single exhibit with two robots but that it. Overall I felt quite disinterested. Whilst entry to the museum is relatively cheap (a little over £4 at ¥620) I didn't think it was good value for time/money.

  • Amazing experience, even for English Speakers. Made me want to pursue science as a career! Very worth watching the short films they have available A beautiful area to walk around once you are done. Well priced and great for kids

  • Worth visiting. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to explore so I saw only few exhibitions, but the ones I saw were interesting. What I didn't see in any other technology museum, and what I appreciate a lot, is that museum staff is approaching you just to shed more light on exhibitions that you see and concepts behind it. I can also definitely recommend longer ride on Ubi-Cube. It was very nice to try it and have a trip around museum on it.
