Very few people are aware that this unassuming church at the foot of Wavel Hill is the origin of the brotherhood known as the Brownfriars. These monks are followers of Franciscan St. John of Capistrano. The original gothic church that stood here was destroyed by the Polish themselves, in the mid-17th century at the height of the Swedish invasion, as it was thought the church would be too good a fortification for the Swedes. From that time only a statue of the Virgin remains. The current Baroque structure has a distinct architectural eccentricity. Instead of a high dome, the church’s dome is closer to the floor than normal. It was constructed this way to make sure the height of the church did not impede any artillery strategy on Wavel Hill. See the mausoleum of St Simon of Lipnica, whose coat is said to have healing powers; and the stained glass windows.

If you're a sucker for 4/5 chillies at a Mexican restaurant you'll wonder whether a) the earth's flat and b) if there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (there is). I'm just happy I'm not 45 years old and lonely. Good church.
Beautiful Franciscan church. Free audio guide goes for about ten minutes which was very interesting. Well worth a visit on your way to the castle.
St. Bernardino's church is very beautiful and I recommend that you give your self some time to go there if you are in Krakow! They offer a 10 minute audio tour for free so do take advantage of that and enjoy the amazing artwork there!
Old and nice.
