Established in 1888, the collection became famous in 1930, when the remains of a 30000-year old woolly rhinoceros were brought to the museum. It is the only perfectly preserved specimen of that extinct animal in the world. The original collection was divided into three sections, and this one became the city's only Natural History Museum. The permanent exhibitions focus on molluscs, minerals and fossils, and prehistoric megafauna. Especially interesting is their exhibition on amber. The temporary exhibitions are always fun too. This may not be the most impressive natural history museum you’ve ever seen, but its constantly growing and worth checking out. Check the museum website for upcoming events.
