Zoo Negara, Kuala Lumpur Reviews

  • Huge zoo, lots of exhibitions. Plenty of rain shelter, shops and food vendors. Animal welfare seems OK. Panda exhibit was included in the price. 85RM for adult foreigners, Malaysians and South East Asians get a discount. Expect heavy rain and deep puddles. Overall very impressive, and different from Western zoos. Local wildlife as interesting as the captive exhibits!

  • Under-maintained! The rabbits in the kid's zone were drenched in their own pee and poo. The aquarium were either empty, left abandoned, or filled with stagnant water with dead cockroaches. The cages for the monkeys were covered in moss. The otters and capybaras ponds were minimally filled (pity those that want to swim). The bird aviary's pond was stagnant and green (poor birds). Orangutans hardly have any tall trees for them to climb and exercise! The banners within the zoo compound were old and mossy. Except for the pandas from China, because they stay in a well-ventilated stadium with air-conditioning. Probably where all the money was spent.

  • This place deserves more than 5 stars especially the wonderful Giant Panda Conservation Centre. It's not easy to create a suitable environment for panda to live here in our hot and wet weather. Overall, the team have done a good job on the conservation centre.

  • parking for cars RM10 is too expensive. some cage are left empty. monkey area are not well kept. plants grow to cover the area. but many interesting improvement happens where we can get a bit closed to the animal like tigers and bears. mirrored enclosure is the best. panda complex give new experiences to me.

  • One of the best zoo in Malaysia I've been. It is easy to volunteer there but need to call the zoo for confirmation first. Then you will need to be at the zoo ticket counter to buy volunteer ticket (usually opens around 8). Currently the price is around RM25 (the price is getting higher). Zoo keepers are friendly and nice, they are willing to help you throughout your volunteering.
