The Izumi Shrine is located inside the Shimizu Jojuen Garden in Kumamoto. This shrine is dedicated to the former Hosokawa feudal lords and was built in 1878 after the Satsuma Rebellion of 1877. The Suizenji Temple is closely related to this clan and hence its grounds were chosen to be the site of this shrine. It was during the bombing of World War 2 that this shrine was completely destroyed but was restored in 1973.
