The Suizenji Jojuen Park is a traditional Japanese landscaped garden and is one of the best gardens in Kumamoto. This spacious garden is great to stroll around and is built around a natural spring pond. Built on land that was originally a site of Suizenji temple, this garden was built by the Hosokawa family in the 17th century. The design and placement of the trees, hills, and ponds in the garden were meant to represent the 53 Stations of the Tokaido, the famous route that ran from Edo to Kyoto. The garden is open all days from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
