The name is a bit of misnomer that’s become popular. Kumarakom is on Vembanad Lake, which doesn’t really have a beach. The beaches everyone seems to mention are to the east, a short drive away. They are Thaickal Beach or Arthunkkal Beach, and these beaches line not the lake, but the Arabian Sea. Volleyball on the sands, or Frisbee throwing matches are common sights on the silvery sands.
