About Mudra Cultural Centre, Kumily

This art center is not exactly a tourist destination. But, if you want to learn about culture and history of Kerala, then you must attend shows here. Mudra arranges shows of Kathakali and Kalaripayattu. Kathakali, the seventeenth-century dance form in Kerala, is a story-telling dance performance. Even the makeup of the performing artists is as important as an event itself. Kalaripayattu is an ancient martial art originated in Kerala. There are four stages of the training and not everyone can complete them. The center hosts many shows throughout the year. So, check their website and book your tickets well in advance.

This cultural centre is near to the ticket counter of Periyar national park. Tourists can spend a nice evening at this centre. Seat no. is given first come first serve basis. Ticket price is Rs. 200 for each show. There is parking avialable at the centre.

  • Breathtaking performance of martial arts and beautiful performed kathakali dance. Both are a must see. The kathakali is done 5-6 and 7-8 and in between the martial arts show from 6-7. The tickets for both are 200 per head. The martial arts show was so amazingly performance that we were literally at the edge of our Seats for the entire 1 hr. And the kathakali dance was so well explained in the beginning that even a novice like us was able to understand and appreciate the beautiful dance form

  • Good theatre. The martial arts show was mesmerising. Kathakali is for acquired taste. The performance of artists was amazing.
