From ancient days, Kunming was benefited from trade, owing to its ideal location towards South-East Asia, Tibet and India. It became a part of the Kingdom of Nanzhao in the medieval ages and was later ruled by the Ming and Qing dynasties. During the Second World War, it played an important role as an American Air Base and Chinese military centre. It is now turned into a tourism centre with the conception of skyscrapers and several luxury hotels.

The city of Kunming comprises of an ancient walled town, commercial and residential districts, and university campuses. The city centre is a major tourist attraction with five roads diverged at a place that’s always bustling with people.
