One of the prime examples of Seljukian architecture, situated below the Basilica of Saint John, Isa Bey Mosque is a marvel in itself. Confluence of mysticism, historicism and spirituality, the Mosque must be visited in your travel to Ephesus. The oldest known example of a Turkish mosque with a courtyard, Isa Bey inspires sublime emotions. Built by the Architect Ali from Damascus and ordered by Isa Bey, the Mosque restores two parts as courtyard and the prayer room. Built with materials taken from former Greco-roman buildings, the structure has 3 entrances. The west facade is made from the blocks of Marble from the cella of Artemision. In the center of the courtyard, there is a basin of octagonal shape for religious purifications. Visiting this Mosque is a must if you want to look at the oldest mosque of Turkey.
