Spread across a large area, Chion-in is a popular temple in the city of Kyoto. Located in the Higashiyama district, the temple boasts of a spectacularly huge entrance gate. Called Sanmon Gate, it is the largest wooden gate in Japan. Points of interest within this vast temple complex include:

  • The Miedo Hall (main hall) is undergoing major renovation work which will last till March 2019. Till then, it is closed to visitors.

  • For the gardens: 500 yen (combined ticket), 400 yen (Hojo Garden only), 300 yen (Yuzen Garden only)
