Spread across a large area, Chion-in is a popular temple in the city of Kyoto. Located in the Higashiyama district, the temple boasts of a spectacularly huge entrance gate. Called Sanmon Gate, it is the largest wooden gate in Japan. Points of interest within this vast temple complex include:

• The Miedo Hall
• The Amidado Hall
• The Seishido Hall
• The gardens of Hojo and Yuzen

• It is an active place of worship. Please maintain the tranquillity of the place.
• Don’t forget to remove your footwear before entering the premises.
• It is recommended to wear conservative clothing.
• The Miedo Hall (main hall) is undergoing major renovation work which will last till March 2019. Till then, it is closed to visitors. 

• Entry to the temple buildings is free.
• For the gardens: 500 yen (combined ticket), 400 yen (Hojo Garden only), 300 yen (Yuzen Garden only)

• Temple buildings: 9 am to 4.30 pm. Last entry at 4 pm.
• The beautiful grounds of the temple are always open.
• Hojo and Yuzen Gardens: 9 am to 4.30 pm. Last entry at 4 pm.
• Special evening hours during autumn and spring evening illuminations. Please check the official website for the same.
