The head temple of Shingon Buddhism Chizan Sect, the Chishaku-in is comparatively less visited by tourists, but is a gem of a place in Kyoto. Founded in the 14th century as a sub-temple of Daidenpo-in, this temple is known for its lovely garden and stunning painted panels and screens. If you happen to be in town on the 15th of June, do visit the Green Leaf Festival which is held in the temple’s premises.
