Housed within the former palace of Emperor Saga, the Daikaku-ji temple is a quaint Shingon Buddhist temple in Kyoto. Historically significant, it was here that the Northern and Southern Imperial Courts went through peace talks and reunited after a civil war that lasted almost 50 years. Within the temple premise is the artificial Osawa Pond which is said to be the oldest Japanese garden ponds to have survived from the Heian period.
