Located in the northern mountains of Kyoto, the quaint village of Kibune (the name translates to ‘yellow boat’) is home to the ancient shrine of Kifune-jinja. Believed to be over 1600 years old, the shrine is dedicated to the god of water and rain. It is also believed that the deity protects those at sea.
Trivia: According to a legend, a goddess travelled in a yellow boat to this region all the way from Osaka. The place where her boat journey ended is where the shrine is built.
