One of the eight head temples of Jhodo sect, the Konkai Komyoji Temple is a charming temple in Kyoto. Having been destroyed in numerous fires and wars, the present temple structure was designed by architect Dr. Amanuma, and it is believed to be the most outstanding wooden structure in the 20th century. Founded in the year 1175, do visit the Miedo (main hall), the Amidadoh (The Amitabha Buddha Hall) and the Monjubosatsu and hall when you explore the temple premises. While visiting the temple, it is hard to miss the stunningly massive two-story ceremonial gate.
