A relatively small zoo, the Kyoto Municipal Zoo is spread across an area of 8.4 acres. The second oldest zoo in Japan, the Kyoto Municipal Zoo was founded in the year 1903 and is home to various animals along with housing a Wildlife Rescue Centre and an Animal Data Room.
