Tour De La Chaine roughly translates to the Tower of the Chain. It is one of the three towers of on the waterfront of La Rochelle and one of the two emblematic towers of the Old Port which constitutes the majestic front door. From this tower, the chain was manoeuvred in order to prohibit access to the port. It has been classified as a historical monument in 1879. The view is spectacular and the towers on a backdrop of the sunset make for absolutely picturesque sights. The stone structure adds to the medieval look of the areas.
