Soaring 196 metres over the harbour of Toulon, this battery of guns is one of the only ones of its kind in perfect condition. Built in 1879, it has an incredible range, and was vital to the defence of the harbour. The fort has a small museum that explains its history. However, it is only ever open generally to the public in the third weekend of September, on the occasion of European Days. Otherwise, throughout the rest of the year, all visits must first be arranged through the GMC (Group Military Conservation) association.
