This bridge is practically La Seyne Sur Mer’s main landmark. Built in the early 19th century to let the railway in to the local docks (otherwise the railway would have had to go through the city centre), the bridge has not been used since 1986. It was lifted up, and has since then pointed to the sky. Someone saw this 40 metre high edifice and thought – “What an excellent vantage point.” Viola! The old bridge has now been restored – a glass elevator from the bottom takes you to the gazebo at the top. From there you can enjoy splendid panoramic views of the fort.
On the first floor of the tower, you can find a small exhibition on the mechanism of the bridge.
