Though the institute itself is centuries old (it was started in 1570), it was moved here in 1958. The exhibits here mostly made up of models that trace the history of La Spezia navy. These mostly cover the period from 1860 to the WWII. Also available here are figureheads from ships from fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth centuries. Other memorabilia include maps, medals, flags, and weapons. The halls are divided as follows:

  • The Hall of Media

  • A real treat. A wealth of naval history - immaculately displayed with multi language information. The ship figureheads have been lovingly restored and are awe-inspiring in scale. Embarrassingly cheap entry price. Well worth a visit.

  • Surprisingly big and interesting museum, unfortunately not everthing is translated in English

  • Excellent museum, very good price. Lots of neat history

  • This museum is worth itself a visit to La Spezia. It houses magnificent pieces for the history of radiotelegraphy and sea warfare. Don't miss the small but original gift shop, if you wish to bring home some handmade souvenir of the Gulf.

  • The museum is a bit small, but the ticket it's not expensive and it had some very nice pieces on display.
