A great way to spend some time exploring nature and natural habitats is to visit a natural preserve like Bockholter Berge. This 61-hectare preserve is situated between the river Ems and Schiffahrterdam and is characterized by specific landscape and habitat. The star attraction of Bockholter Berge are the forest and sandy dunes. You will find a dense oak forest in the north of the preserve, while its eastern and southern sides are covered with pine and juniper. Extensive efforts are being made to decrease cutting of trees and improve the fertility of soil to prepare the preserve to host a larger variety of animals and birds.
