This historic temple was built in 590 BC, as an ode to the queen of the Greek Gods, Hera. But due to a disastrous earthquake sometime in the 4th century CE, it was ravaged. Although it now stands in a dilapidated state, it does not fail to attract tourists and history buffs in large numbers. The temple has a squat appearance due to its vast length in proportion to its breadth and its low height. It is orientated east-west. It has 16 columns to the side, which is very typical to the Doric style of architecture. Spend some time here to witness this ancient architectural miracle of the Greek civilization.
