Freedom Park is located in downtown Lagos and is a major memorial and leisure park and one of the most visited touristy places in this Nigerian city. Established in 2010, this park was built to commemorate the country’s 50th Independence Day anniversary. A national memorial, an historical landmark, and a cultural site, this park also serves as a recreation centre. The park is built on a site that was earlier an old colonial prison.
