Nestled in the heart of Ruby Mountains in Elko County, the Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway running at an altitude of 11,387 feet is a backpacker’s and hiker’s delight. You will pass through four geological interpretative panels through the meadows teaming with wild flora and fauna, waterfalls, avalanche chutes and rocky outcrops. The mountain goats and the Big Horn Sheep will greet you. You can camp at the Thomas Canyon Campground or find suitable places amid the wilderness. Lamoille Creek and a few lakes are located in Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway where you can enjoy fishing. Along the Lamoille Canyon Road, there are scenic hiking trails which will give you ample opportunity to drink in the wilderness.
