Lancaster’s history has a basis in the farmlands that surround the county and most of the local traditions are centred around cultivations and harvests. The arrival of industrialization brought machinery and transportation devices into the country and redefined its existence. The Rough and Tumble Historical Association hosts events and exhibits concentrated on the steam traction engines, farm tractors, mechanized saw mills and other such machines that played an important role to move agricultural produce. In the warm summer weekends, the Association displays these machines dating from the previous two centuries on the grounds out of town. You can visit this place to see the evolution of hundreds of years of engineering all at once with each other. Besides the machines, there are events centred around harvest season and the various activities carried out on the Lancaster farms.

  • Very interesting pieces of equipment on display here. It's amazing to see some of these antiques still operational. If you plan to come you definitely will need a full day to explore. Young kids will enjoy the two different train rides they have set up.

  • The machines and engines are very well cared for but don't expect to learn much. It feels like you're visiting someone with a collection rather than a museum. There are gems to be seen, just don't expect to learn the history of the machines or find out how they work.

  • This is a fun show with pleasant and easy going folks. Dogs on leash are also welcome. Just put it in your plans to go, and then attend. It will be one of the top ten most interesting things that you ever do in your life. If you have kids, then they will always remember it, but be warned, you may have to take them again. There is lots to do for kids. The learning potential is exponential. Go early as possible to get parked and situated and beat the crowds. Rough and Tumble has one of the best OPERATIONAL collections of machines in the world. The is also a campground next door.

  • A fascinating place to visit during the threshermans reunion. All the old steam engines and tractors and the activities that they do is very fun and interesting. The good old days I guess it is called. Definitely a historic event. Good food as well.

  • Awesome place to see steam and other tractors. Make a day of it, you may need 2 days to see all they have to offer.
