Burg Nanstein is a medieval castle which is said to have been built somewhere in the year 1162 and of which only the ruins remain today. The castle is well-known for the elaborate siege at the time of the Knights' Revolt in 1523. The main castle which can be seen today reflects the major reconstruction phase from the 15th and the 16th centuries. Open air games are organised each year during summers in the castle courtyard. While you are there, don’t miss the 13th century magnificent shield wall, Franz von Sickingen’s death chamber and the spellbinding view from the rock plateau.
