Pulau Payar Marine Park - Review

The sprinkling of jade green islands that make up Pulau Payar lie just 30km south- east of Langkawi and take you to the world of underwater world and how!

An overload of tropical fish awaits you at Palau Payer Marine Park. The park is a coral reef teeming with fish including feather starfish, rainbow runners, barracuda and ghost fish. It is one of the west coast’s most popular dive sites, there is the wreck of an old fishing boat and the wreck of a small boat carrying roof tiles to explore. It was the first marine park created in western Malaysia and is also used as a research center.

Snorkeling in the very warm waters is fantastic; get ready for the hungry little fish to nip at your toes as you explore their home. Aside from the colorful fish there are sea turtles, anemones, and friendly octopi. In the afternoon there are shark feeding exhibitions put on by the tour groups. The sharks are reef sharks which are exciting but won’t hurt humans.

Pulau Payar Marine Park, Langkawi Island Reviews

  • This place has gone down hill fast. I was here about 12 years ago, and it was pretty awesome, with clean water, locals feeding baby black-tip sharks, plenty of space. This time around, the experience was terrible. It looks like they are renovating the place? because I didn't see the pier structure, but a temporary floating pier. The big ferries dump their passengers onto this overcrowded platform, then, the small ferries take them to the floating pier, 30 meters away. Maybe it is the Chinese New Year period, both places were overrun, and at lunch time, they turned into refugee camps, no joke. A few days later, on the Chinese New Year Day, I saw the Jetty Point at Kuah, (the ferry pier that takes people to the Marine Park), had such a traffic jam the likes of which I've only seen in Manila. How could this many people all arrive on the little Marine Park? The "Refugee" situation is turning into a crisis! Avoid this place, if you have dived or snorkeled in better places. The visibility was like 3-5 meters only.

  • Terrible Experience. Nuff Said. I guess everyone would agree with me. My advise, take care of the maintenance and get new contract for the food service provider. The existing one the worst.

  • Nature reserve with bare amenities! Not even fresh water tap supply available

  • Place needs to be kept clean. It's too dirty. But it has some Nice views.

  • Very Bad Maintenance. About time for the management to upgrade the facility etc. Who on earth serve cold fries with plain white rice for lunch? Seriously? Please improve all these drastically. Oh yah! Totally forgot to mention the beach is kinda shallow already. Dirty. Rubbish everywhere. So disappointed.
