Scarborough Fish N Chip Restaurant, Langkawi Reviews
Not sure whether my memory plays tricks on me. Years ago when we first came during day time, the place was mostly empty. Although the weather was a little rough out there, we enjoyed the food and also chatting with the owner. This time we arrived at night so couldn't see a thing at the beach. The restaurant was quite full and we had to wait for a long time for the food. And the fish & chips we ordered were not as good as what I remember. The batter was a little hard and rather oily. Unless I could arrive for the sunset, don't think I'll dine here again.
Ok first up it takes time to get here. It's literally at the northern tip of the island with nothing much else going around here. It isn't very cheap either. The food we had was really fresh. Then again we asked what was fresh and ensured that we didn't want any frozen fish as was previously highlighted by a previous dinner in their review. The food was fresh and tasty. We managed to get our food rather fast. The kids enjoyed the environment and hearing waves in the background was relaxing and pleasant. A good experience.
In the past when Scarborough Fish & Chips first opened it was serving great fresh seafood at exceptional value. Sad to see that over the years as we come and visit it’s slowly losing its qualities. We were served old frozen dark gray, tough barracuda that needed retrying after which we had tummy aches and calamari rings that were very mediocre. It still retains its beautiful beach front setting, just a shame it’s losing its former dining glory. Come on guys don’t rely just on the traffic of tourists coming through, keep some of the passion from when it first opened in 2011.
Right by the beach overlooking the Andaman Sea. Simple restaurant. Ok fish (Snow fish) and chip, and for its price, to the smaller portion. Can be a bit busy as tourists frequented. Cleanliness can be improved. Restroom is pretty dim and wet.
I had the barracuda and my husband had the dory. Both were beautifully cooked, and the batter on the dory was very crispy. Beer was cheap, cold, and the waiter was attentive and asked if we wanted another round just before we finished the first. It's a very casual place, and I bet it would be perfect right at sunset. One review mentioned that it was sandy...yeah, duh, it's right on the beach! That's the charm!
