About Jameos Del Agua, Lanzarote

The Jameos del Agua is a natural and then manmade wonder and is located inside the volcanic tunnel created by the eruption of La Corona Vulcano. Within it is a geological formation- an internal lake! The Jameos was conceived by island born artist and architect Cesar Manrique, during the 1960's. His plan was to fuse art with nature. The end result? A marvellous creation on his native Lanzarote! You have to visit the site to believe it.

  • Dec. '17 A fascinating visitors attraction in the Jameos National Park. The attraction is an underground pool containing unique tiny white crabs. The pool is in a collapsed lava tube which is formed when lava flows from an open volcanic vent and the outer layer cools off rapidly solidifying forming a crust on the flow. When the lava stops flowing it all drains out of the crust & leaves an empty lava tube. It's well worth a visit just to walk through this natural historical phenomenon. There is a nice cafe & gift shop there too. The surrounding area is a national park so relatively unspoilt by development. There are public footpaths to follow through the park to the sea.

  • Gorgeous and peaceful. It is basically a 4 part exhibit: when you enter, you see the cafe. Walk to the LEFT through the cafe, and you'll see a beautiful tunnel cave. Then, walk back and go to the RIGHT of the cafe, and you'll see a small cave lake with unique white crab inside. It's quite peaceful and incredible how clear the water is. Then, you head up the stairs on the opposite side and you will see the man-made pool that is just pretty to look at with neat architecture. Finally, you'll see the large auditorium, built inside a lava cave. Quite incredible and I wish I was able to see some sort of performance there. The cafe people were nice as well, which is a plus. Make sure you don't mistake a clear part of the water for a safe place to put your foot! Saw that happen twice when I was there haha. Almost happened to me.

  • An absolutely stunning place. Very calm and relaxing. No good for people with limited mobility as lots of steps and different levels. Beautiful architecture and the auditorium is a sight to see. The swimming pool is also just stunning. I'd love to come to a show here!

  • Really lovely place to look around. The crabs are so cute and kind of glow in the water. I would say worth a visit especially as this is the only place in the world that this species exists.

  • Jameos Del Agua has to be one of the most beautiful and tranquil places I have ever been too. Photos can not do this place justice, you have to see it for yourself. From the tiny crabs in the crystal clear cave lagoon, the spectacular outdoor lagoon to the surroundings and plants the whole place is absolutely breathtaking.
