The Iron Bridge of Yellow river, also called the first bridge over the yellow river. The bridge lies in front of Jin Cheng Pass, at the foot of Bai Ta Mountain. Earlier there were many floating bridges over the Yellow river, mainly the Zhen Yuan floating bridges. These bridges were extensively used for over 500 years and were finally retired in 1909 and an Iron Bridge was built. The Zhongshan Iron Bridge is 234 meters long and 7.5 meters wide with six piers and five bridge openings, with five arched steel-structured girders spanning over its top. The bridge had an expiry date in 1989, and since then about 10 new bridges have already been built nearby. There are plans to construct even more bridges to replace the Zhongshan Iron Bridge, but none can replace its great historic value and contribution of 80 years. The visitors now cherish the place as a cultural relic and an icon of history. Highlights and must sees include:
- Monuments built around the bridge

One of the first bridges in this area built over the yellow river. Now it is pedestrian only, so it’s a pretty nice place to walk about and get some breeze from the river.
This beautiful iron truss bridge was planed in 1906 by Belgian Chinese mandarin Paul Splingaerd 林輔臣 aka 斯普林格尔德. Construction started in 1908 and complete by 1909. The name of the bridge at the time was First Bridge 第一桥 as it was the first permanent bridge over the Yellow River (temperary pontoon bridge have existed before). The color of the bridge at the time was red. In 1928, this bridge was renamed ZhongShan Bridge to commemerate the founding father of the republic. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, the bridge was repainted grey to camelflage this bridge from Japanese bombers. Since 1954, this bridge has undergone a seriest of renovations to preserve and strengthen the structure. It is incredible that we have this bridge today.
Very good place to be there
Built in Quin dynasty , said to be the first bridge that crossed Yellow River (but I am not as sure), and blessed by Dr Sun Yatsang, otherwise not much to miss.
A very beautiful place to visit.
