Amboy Crater, Las Vegas Reviews
Amazing spot, camped out in car in early August. Could see the milky way, very quiet with the exception of train going by but it wasn't bothersome.
DANGER .... Dont go here !!! STAY AWAY !!! I Want it all to myself. I love this place🙏❤
Amboy Crater is a National Natural Landmark because it is an example of a very symmetrical volcanic cinder cone. It is amazing to see and you can hike to the rim. There are picnic tables and rest rooms available. Worth the visit.
You can access the top of the crater easily by walking around to the east, which would be your right when looking at the crater, find the entrance and ascend to the top in a gentle slope, rather than scaling the steeper slope nearest the parking lot. The lava beds were used in a scene from the feature film "Caution to The Wind." (2010) and also, I believe in the promotional advertising film for The Last Jedi. Get your kicks on Route 66, at least while the old road lasts.
An absolute great place to visit, and pick up lava rocks...
