This synagogue, a heritage building of Launceston, is unusual in multiple ways. For one it is the whole country's second oldest synagogue, the oldest known Christian temple in the city, and one of the very few examples of Egyptian Revival architecture in all of Australia. The most prominent feature of such architecture displayed over here is the trapezoid facade. The entrance to the synagogue is not on the street itself, rather you have to go down a narrow alley next to the building and enter from behind. It's a good place to connect with the Jewish community of the island. The building is managed by The National Trust of Australia.
