Focusing on colonial and contemporary art alike, with both permanent and temporary collections in ten galleries, the museum is the best gathering of fine art on the island. Combined with the Joss House, which is also knowns as the still functioning Guan Di Temple from north-eastern Tasmanian mining towns, the gallery is an unmissable attraction on your Launceston trip. There is also good collection of decorative arts in the museum. Check out the cafe and the shop. The building itself is a historic structure at 120 years of age.
