Across the street from the Queen Victoria Art Gallery this park was originally a military barracks. In recent years it has become a very popular place for tourists to meet locals. The location along the river is classic, with a boardwalk that extends from the Cataract Gorge Reserve to the Inveresk Precinct. It's probably the best waterfront territory in the city, perhaps even in all of Tasmania. The Tamar River flows by a green lawn area with spaciously placed trees, a skate park, a boat ramp, tennis courts, playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment, drinking fountains, picnic and barbecue areas, gazebos and toilets, and tracks for jogging and cycling. It even has free WiFi. This is also the place to charter a cruise off the Cataract Gorge from. The city celebrates New Year at this park.
