About Sauvabelin Tower, Lausanne

Brilliant panoramic views over Lausanne, the surrounding woods and lake, and encircling mountains – that’s the USP here. It’s looks like a fairy-tale, rural skyscraper - and yes, it’s all wooden, the 302 steps to the top included. The tower hasn’t any historical significance; it was built to mark the celebrations of entering the third millennium. However, at 35 metres high (30 for the viewing platform), the tower manages to be a popular tourist attraction of Lausanne. Its creation is actually a result of touching collaborations – mainly local companies got together to make it happen. It was built by an environmentally friendly process that used local massive wood. And since it’s a little out of town, why don’t you jog up to the tower? The run is pretty invigorating. Take snacks and drinks.

  • The tower is located a short walk from the metro station (10 minutes), and from there you can go back to Lausanne by foot (1h casual walk). The perspectives while ascending and descending the tower really outline the amazing architecture. The tower is surrounded by woods, but you can experience a fantastic view of the surrounding landscapes from up top (if weather permits). The tower might be closed if the stairs are icy or if the wind is too extreme.
