About Scott County Freedom Rock, Le Claire
The Freedom Rock is basically a really large boulder located in rural Iowa. It is repainted every year with a different Thank You as a gratitude to the Nation’s Veterans and to honor their service. The artist behind this is Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II. He was apparently inspired by the movie Saving Private Ryan and aimed at giving Veterans a unique recognition on the Memorial Day. Sorensen paints The Freedom Rock on his own with ofcourse the tremendous support that he has gathered over the years. Sorensen is not supported by the government to paint the rock manages really well the generous donations that he receives. While he was painting murals across the country, he had the idea of spreading the message of The Freedom Rock to other small communities across the whole of Iowa. For the next few summers Sorensen and his family plan to travel the state of Iowa to put a Freedom Rock in each county.
