Arche de la Nature is a lovely nature park located on the outskirts of the city. A lush area of 300 hectares encompasses a gorgeous forest which is home to a number of animals and birds. An arboretum within itself you will get to observe a total of 42 species of trees including pines, oaks, chestnut trees, cedars and horse chestnut, with the oldest tree aged 130 years! Carrying a camera on this trip is a must as you may spot deers, pheasants, partridges, wild boars and more. Hiking and biking are two activities that make the exploration of the forest most enjoyable. Arche de la Nature also includes three nature centers, namely, The House of Water, The House of the Prairie and The House of the Forest. Giving you a glimpse into the life and routine of the river world, the House of Water is an exciting place for all those who enjoy learning about marine life. Located on the banks of L’Huisne, it offers the perfect place to closely observe the different ecosystems present there. The aquariums here are very educative, but what is more fun, is the activity centre! Also house to a historical hydraulic plant, micro-hydroelectric plant and a wind turbine, you can also take a tour of the center and see their displays and working. Rent a bicycle or a canoe to add to this fun filled day! The House of the Prairie, accessible through an amusing route on-foot, or by a horse ridden ride, is also a part of this center. With a reputed vegetable garden under its roof, you are sure to get some fresh, healthy produce here. Organic gardening techniques can be observed here, along with honey harvesting methods. Unique farm animals species including the Western White pork, the Normand donkey, the Percheron horse, the Le Mans hen and rabbit Rex are residents here, making the center very interesting for children. The most incredible part of this House is its orchard. With 105 varieties of fruits, apples being most common, a visit here is like a session of aromatherapy! The House of the Forest includes part of the nature centre. Apart from the arboretum and the woods, this house has 32 trees which are beautiful in their own peculiar ways. Labelled as "Arbre remarquable de France", the 2.5 kilometer trail takes you to all of these trees which are incredible in terms of their age, shape, size and even species!A host to a number of events and activities for the entire community, the park also celebrates a number of festivals with the arrival of the month of October. A wholesome natural experience, have a great time exploring the culture of the city through nature.
