Carré Plantagenêt is the archaeological museum of the city. Aptly named, the centers boasts of the prettiest square courtyards. With the intention of telling the story of the city right from the start, they have five sections telling each and every detail of this gorgeous place. Starting from the “start”, the first section is Prehistory, followed by Protohistory, The Gallo period -romaine and The Early Middle Ages to finally conclude with Medieval Maine. Documents, manuscripts, portraits, artworks and artefacts assist in this storytelling. A great place to bring children, you can all explore the museum on your own, or better still, take a guided tour! There are two routes by which you can traverse through this tale. While the shorter one will take you through the main events chronologically, it will save you time but won’t give you the details. It is recommended that you take the longer route which goes through every detail. With archaeological books, scenography and interactive totems en route, it is very entertaining for adults and children alike! While here, you can also check out the documentation center, auditoriums and the activity center, and have a quick bite before moving on to explore more of this rich city.
