Sherwood Forest is a royal forest of Nottinghamshire and it has gained its popularity because of its association with the legend Robin Hood. From the end of Ice Age, the area had been wooded and presently it encompasses around 423 hectares area. Sherwood Forest was named as Bilhaugh and Birklands, although, later it got its status of being called a royal hunting forest. Each August, Sherwood Forest hosts a week long Robin Hood festival which creates a medieval atmosphere, featuring the legendary characteristics of Mr. Hood. Jousters, strolling players, musicians, fire eaters, rat-catchers, and alchemists take the responsibility to entertain the visitors during this festival. You can also check out the art and craft center of the forest as it includes art studio, cafe, exhibitions, and craft demonstrations.
