- The most famous festival in the Leh-Ladahk region is the Hemis Festival, which is very important in terms of the culture in the area. The festival runs for two days during June or July and celebrates the birth of the Buddhist guru Padmasambhava at Hemis Gompa, about 45km outside of Leh. Unfortunately, except for the Ladahk Harvest Festival and the Ladahk Festival all other festivals occur during winter, which isn’t the best time to travel.
