People get so caught up in exploring Ladakh’s sites and monastery circuit that they forgot it’s got an incredibly rich geological heritage. This tiny one room museum exhibit outside of Sankar Gompa has collected hundreds of rock, precious stone, fossil and mineral samples from around the region to represent a cross section of the lands that make up Ladakh. The top exhibit is the Fulgurite, also called petrified lightning, formed when lightning strikes and fuses together soil and clay.
