Pangong Lake - Review

The Pangong Lake is an exquisite and worldwide famous closed drainage lake spread across a vast area in the Himalayas. The major portion of the lake falls in the territory of Tibet. The lake has been categorized under the protocol of the Ramsar Convention as a great wetland reserve with a recognized global importance. Consequently, the lake has attained the status of the inaugural international wetland in South Asia.

The lake characteristically freezes at the onset of winter. Being situated at an altitude of almost 4500 meters, the lake consists of extremely minimal aquatic vegetation and micro vegetation. The marshy areas of the lake feature the flourish of scrubs and few varieties of perennial aquatic herbs. The underwater life is limited to the thriving of crabs and other crustacean beings, with almost no fishes or other forms of marine life.

The lake is also a much favored immigration zone for migratory birds, along with the breeding and dwelling of the Bar-headed goose, Brahmini duck, and several other species of mountain birds.

  • The most beautiful place I have every been to in my life. The place is beyond description, only to be experienced, though recently a lot of rampant tourism has taken away its charm. Make sure you stay overnight there and see both sunset and sunrise, you will never forget those sights in your lifetime.

  • Really very cold place. Avoid to go with children and old age persons (low oxygen). Really amazing that at top of hill salted water lake. Better take own food and snacks. All side hill in lake in between of them. You can not see any tree grass here. It is in between India and China border area. You can spend 4-5 hours here. Cristal clear water and very beautiful location.

  • The most beautiful place I have seen in my life. It's really heaven on earth. It's never enough to keep watching it's water or mountains surrounding it. Night it gets freezing cold.

  • It is the one of the best place to visit. Here u will gonna enjoy the beauty of nature. I really like the way this place changes it colours in every season. If you are a photographer or loves to click thn September and October month is best to visit though its looks beautiful in throughout the year but its September and October when this place changes colour every single day

  • Alas! There is no 7 star. Hence giving only 5 star. I never knew that it was so far from Leh (6 hours). Reached in the evening, stayed in camp and had to return back next morning due to schedule. That was too short for such a heavenly bliss. Must keep 2 days for this. Evening picture was my lifetime achievement. It was too cold to bear the evening wind. Be careful. Must keep sufficient warm cloth. Make it sure to wake up early and see sunrise. Wonderful experience to see the sudden blast of light from no light to full light within a minute. Absolute clear sky. No pollution.
