Twilight is divine from this elevated spot, three miles from Leh. Whether sunrise or sunset, the changing light brings mystic beauty to the panorama of mountains surrounding the Stupa. The striking structure owes its remarkability to both; it’s isolation and its design. It was designed by a Japanese, and thus is greatly different from the orthodox Ladakhi structures.

This relatively new Stupa was built in 1991. The current and 14th Dalai Lama, who still visits often, himself enshrined the relics of the Buddha that are now housed there. The Shanti Stupa is a symbolic memorial depicting the completion of 2500 years of Buddhism in the world. Visitors can enjoy a brief interlude at the meditation room between climbing to the Stupa and photographing the surrounding mountains.

  • The Shanti Stupa is very calm and refreshing. It doesn't need a lot of climbing, making it easy for any age-groups to see it. It is situated in a very picturesque location. If you are a photo freak, you will find amazing backdrop for all your pictures. Just sit on the benches and admire the beauty of the nature. Happy refreshing!

  • The whole place has peace written all over it... beautifully constructed and well maintained. Instead going there by car one should definitely try to climb through stairs and enjoy beautiful city view in back drop.

  • It feels really awesome in the early morning when it is really quite justifying its name. The view is also amazing. Do take pictures but nothing can match the view of the naked eyes. So remember that.

  • Awesome place to visit as a local sightseeing in the Leh city. It’s located on little bit height and very good view of Leh city… Awesome atmosphere in June to August… Feel very good in sunlight with wind… You have enjoyed here between sun light and DOM shadow …You can love to seat here and rest of your mind & body…

  • Wonderful place to spend your evening at Leh. You can watch the entire city from there. Great place for photographic opportunities specially night photography of the town. It gets very peaceful at the Stupa. Its one of the many peace stupas erected by Buddhists.
