Mount Emei is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China. Mt. Emei is the highest among these four. It was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. It also is traditionally regarded as the bodhimanda, or place of enlightenment of the bodhisattva Samantabhadra. This is the location of the first Buddhist temple built in China and has seventy-six Buddhist monasteries of the Ming and Qing period. The most spectacular sights of Mt. Emei include the sunrise and the Clouds Sea seen from the Golden Summit of the mountain. You can either hike to the top or take a ride on the cable cars. It’s definitely something to see once in your lifetime.
