The Leshan Giant Buddha stands tall at a height of 233 feet and depicts Maitreya, a Bodhisattva who is represented usually as a stout monk with a broad smile. The statue is said to have been built somewhere between 713 and 803 and has been carved out of a cliff that lies at the confluence of the Dadu River and Min River. It is the tallest and largest Buddha statue in the world. Leshan Giant Buddha can be seen in a sitting posture facing the river and has a symmetrical posture that has been captured beautifully in its somber stillness.
