Lethbridge /ˈlɛθbrɪdʒ/ is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada, and the largest city in southern Alberta. It is Alberta's fourth-largest city by population after Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, and the third-largest by area after Calgary and Edmonton. Lethbridge is known for its warm chinook winds and its iconic landmark - the High Level Train Bridge. Lethbridge is home to over 130 parks and natural areas providing great walking, running, cycling and hiking opportunities through the city’s vast river valley. In 2016, Expedia named Lethbridge one of six must-stop locations on an Alberta road trip. In June, 2016 Alberta Venture Magazine ranked Lethbridge number two behind Edmonton as the best community in Alberta to do business crediting the agricultural sector, post-secondary institutions and thriving network of entrepreneurs and technology as the key factors to the city’s success. When Canadian Business magazine and PROFITguide.com announced Canada's Best Places for Business 2016, Lethbridge was ranked number four overall and also received the number two ranking as the most business friendly community. Lethbridge is the commercial, financial, transportation and industrial centre of southern Alberta. The city's economy developed from drift mining for coal in the late 19th century and agriculture in the early 20th century.
