The Cannonball House of Lewes was built 1765 and was once the home of Gilbert McCracken and David Rowland who were the pilots for the Bay & River Delaware. Speaking of the town's rich nautical heritage, this building has also served as a restaurant, a laundry store and, for a time, the mayor's office. This historic home is definitely one of the best places to visit in Lewes.

  • Great history. Lots of shops and places to eat in town.

  • The First Town in the First State. The town of Lewes has a wealth of history that is well preserved including this house that has a cannonball lodged in the exterior wall. It was fired upon in April of 1813 during the fighting of the War of 1812.

  • It's a bit cramped but super fun to look through. They managed to fit a ton of info and items in a cool little slice of history. Refreshing.

  • Friendly knowledgeable staff
